What is philosophy? Philosophy is when you take a simple, yet complicated question, and think about it. It may seem simple to do so, but what a real philosopher does, they take this question and think about it. Philosophers think about every aspect, and analyze each detail of lifes complicated questions. Reason and logic are key to be a philosopher.
Even as a philosopher, when you think you have found the answer to a question, you always look at the other side of the problem. You try and "wear a different hat". A true philosopher knows how to look at both sides, and understand, even if they are uncomfortable with the opposing position. Even philosophers who have been practicing this act for many, many years, still cannot find the answers they are looking for.
What is philosophy good for? I believe that in philosphy you seem to discover your true self. By asking your self the questions you would have never thought of. But yet, you seem to find the answers to the questions you've always had. In this link, it shows how to "find" your true self. It even states that you need to attempt and rediscover your self in order to find who you really are. As a philosopher, that is what you tend to do. By answering these complicated questions, you truly start to rediscover who you really are. by finding out the points of views you have, and the asnwers to all your deepest questions.
So, what is the value of philosophy? Finding your true self.
